MÉTA Program >>> Habitat distribution maps

P2a – Mesic shrub vegetation:
A group of generally secondary shrub habitats of wet or mesic areas (except riverine willow scrubs and willow mire woodlands). They develop usually on wet meadows, or by the systematic coppicing or clear-cutting of mesic forests. According to the criteria of the habitat, the closure of the shrub vegetation is 50% at least, and within this, the ratio of trees should remain under 50%. The total area of the habitat is 16000 ha in Hungary. Its distribution is almost uniform, except the Alföld, where it is missing from large areas. Even so, it occurs with the largest extension on Alföld (5000 ha), as well as on Dél-Dunántúl (3500 ha) and in the Északi-középhegység (3000 ha). It can be found with smaller amount on Nyugat-Dunántúl (2100 ha), in the Dunántúli-középhegység (1200 ha) and on the Kisalföld (1100 ha). Only the very dry or intensively ploughed regions are not suitable for this habitat.
