M2 – Open loess steppe oak woodlands with openings:
Low or medium-high growing oak forests on lowlands, foothills, and in the hilly regions with usually dense shrub layer and with forest and steppe species in the herb layer. The habitat is a mosaic of open forest and loess steppes, semi-dry grasslands, steppe thickets and/or scrub vegetation of Prunus spinosa and Crataegus monogyna. An infrequent habitat with small extension; 100, partly uncertain occurrences are known, covering less than 100 ha altogether. It occurs sporadically at the edge of Alföld, as well as in the Baranyai-dombság, in the Velencei-hegység, in the Gödöllői-dombvidék, at the southern part of Cserhát, on the foothills of Mátra and Bükk, at the southern part of Cserehát and on Tokaj-hegyalja. Connected to the forest steppe climate and to the soils developed on loess or loess-like sediments, formerly it covered presumably larger areas, but currently almost exclusively tree groups and woodland fringes represent the habitat.
